Hello and happy SEPTEMBER! I thought it would be fun to look back at the past five Septembers to see what I was wearing and how (if at all) my style has changed.
Here’s what I found:
In September of 2017, 2018 and 2019, I was VERY into my ripped jeans. Any type of ripped jeans and I wore them. But they were a different style than what is being shown in stores today, which is a high rise, wide leg silhouette. Nonetheless, my skinny ripped knee jeans were my favorite and at the time they offered just the vibe I was looking for.
As we move into September of 2020, I actually struggled to find a single photo of me in anything over than a swimsuit, workout clothing or pajamas. The photo shown here is one of the only images I have from that month where I actually put “real” clothing on and they happened to be a very traditional pair of dark blue skinny jeans. This was definitely before Gen-Z shamed millenials and beyond for wearing this style. If you know, you know. (By the way, I still own these jeans, think they are classic and show you how to wear/style them for 2022. You can check that post out here!)
As we finally we move into September 2021, you’ll notice that my denim choice moves into a more straight leg style, which I still continue to wear and love.
Overall, my takeaways from the past years of September styles are:
I have moved away from ripped jeans - I actually only have one pair left and they are reserved for the dog park. I am not gravitating towards skinny jeans at the moment but that doesn’t mean they are off limits or that you can’t wear them! It’s just how I am feeling about them right now. And lastly, for this coming September, I find myself being drawn to highwaisted, wider leg denim. I love this black pair that I found at Zara recently.
Seeing that we are just finding our way into the first week of September for 2022, I haven’t styled a ton of denim yet since it’s been in the 80s here, but it looks like the temps are on their way down throughout the month so I will be sure to share more outfits styled around my favorite styles of jeans.
What kind of denim are you wearing this fall? Are you sticking with you tried and true styles or branching out and experimenting with trends? I’d love to know, so leave a comment below. :)
See you back here next week!
xo,
Christine
I like the contrast of fitted at the waist and hips to movement of fabric around the ankles. Denim defines any fit with its own character, but it defaults to classic every other turn.
