Your Fall Wardrobe Audit...
And how to take inventory of what you have before adding more to it

Hello and happy Wednesday! Just a quick heads up - today’s newsletter is more of a read than a visual, but I feel it’s important to talk about this topic in regards to our closets as we get ready to really dive into fall. It helps us know what we have, potentially save money, and only buy things we really love.
Alright, with that said - let’s dive in!
It’s that time of year where we are all being inundated (myself included) with what the newest fall trends are, what we need in our closet to transition into fall, or the top ten must-have fall staple pieces every closet needs. The list goes on. Don’t get me wrong, I think these topics and suggested pieces that people are sharing are great and can be very helpful, and I plan to share my own version of what I think every closet needs to cruise through the autumnal months, but first let’s chat about how to assess our current wardrobe before we make any purchases, shall we?
One of the first things I do with all my clients no matter how long we have been working together, is consistently do a closet audit or assessment every few months, usually seasonally. The goal of this is to make sure there isn’t stagnant energy hanging around in the closet that has accumulated over the past year made up of unworn or unloved pieces, which can take up space both physically and mentally. This process also helps us remember what we currently have as well as what we might have put away in storage from last year during the changing of the seasons. Whatever the case, it is always a good idea to really know what you have before adding more in.
First things first, if you are someone who packs away clothing seasonal, now is the time to pull out those boxes and bins and see what’s inside. You might be pleasantly surprised at what you have from the past fall or maybe it’s time for a refresh, but regardless, my tip is to look at each piece, try it on and go from there. Donate anything that has stains you can’t get rid of, holes that you know you won’t fix or items that don’t fit right. This helps keep the closet fresh, organized and free from pieces that bring more of a headache than joy.
Next, see if what you already have is similar to some of the things you are tempted to buy this season. Also, compare and contrast what you have to your current wishlist to avoid buying duplicates - trust me, this happens a lot when people don’t look at what they have first before shopping.
Lastly, check to see if the pieces that you are either adding back in (if they were in storage), or continuing to keep in the closet (maybe they stay there year round) go with what you plan to wear throughout the next handful of months. I challenge you to remix, remix, remix! And, that those same pieces align with your current aesthetic and vibe you are planning for this coming fall season.
I plan to share my must-have pieces for fall with you all soon, but for now I will share some items that are on my wish list!
Pleated wool trousers in cream or off white
Black stiletto leather booties
Black leather loafers
Silky oversized black blazer
Cozy black shacket
Dark brown leather booties
More belts!
Silky brown maxi skirt
Brown corduroy trousers
Wow, I just realized almost everything was either black or brown…I sense a theme. :) Now, do I need all those things? No, but if I find the right item at the right price, I will absolutely introduce it into my repertoire and feel great about my choice. This is because I am very well versed in what I have already, and know where I could fill in some gaps for the current vibe I am attempting for this upcoming season.
Ok that’s it for today! Before I sign off, are their any links I can help you find or offer any other tips on how to prepare your closet for fall? I’d love to help, so please leave me a comment below with any questions you might have!
xo,
Christine
Good advice! Do you have a mood board or images you look at for fall? Would love to see !
Dark brown trousers/pants are hard to find. Where should I look for them? Thanks!
