Hello hello! Today we are talking about the top ten things you need in your wardrobe to begin creating a cohesive closet. My intention with this post is to share specific pieces with you that will help you create a working wardrobe - one that works for you, not against you.
First, take a look at the items below and then cross compare them with what you already have already hanging in your closet…
(Here is a shoppable PDF, which should allow you to just click on the image you want to shop, but it’s my first time doing it this way so if it doesn’t work, I also linked everything below!)
Tee | Button-down | Turtleneck | Blazer | Coat | Jeans | Tote | Sneakers | Boots | Mules
Why these ten items?
There are many versions of basics that we could have in our closet but I chose these specific pieces because I feel they create the necessary foundation of a wardrobe. These pieces can be turned into simple and basic outfits, such as pairing the black blazer with the white v-neck, black jeans, booties and tan tote. Right there, that is an outfit in itself, and there are many more that can be created rom just those ten pieces, which is called outfit remixing. But basically, think of these ten things as the jumping off point, and then from there you can start to introduce in other versatile tops, bottoms, shoes, outerwear and accessories.
Ok, so how many of those items do you already have hanging in your closet? If you don’t already have most or any of the items I’m suggesting, keep in mind the pieces do not need to be identical to what I shared above, just in the same ballpark. So for example, you might not have or even like the feel of a white v-neck, but you do have a scoop neck version that you love. That still works! Consider it checked off the list.
Here are some more alternatives to the items I listed:
White v-neck t-shirt: Crew, scoop or boatneck
Chambray shirt: Light blue oxford or cotton button-down
Black turtleneck: Mock turtleneck or long sleeve black crewneck
Black blazer: Sweater blazer or structured black cardigan
Camel coat: Black wrap coat or gray overcoat
Black straight legged jeans: Skinny, wide leg, bootcut or flare
Tan leather tote: Black or taupe
White sneakers: Cream or off white in either leather or canvas
Black booties: Tan leather or suede, also does not need to have a heel
Tan mules: Black leather or suede mules or tan, or black leather or suede loafers
Basically, what I want you to keep in mind when looking over my suggestions is that it is also important to take into account what you like in terms of style and fit. I can suggest what I think works the best, but at the end of the day, you are the one that has to wear the items. So if you prefer bootcut versus skinny jeans or find that a black blazer feels too formal for you and that a sweater cardigan is more your vibe, then go with that. Find what works for you and what feels good. This often comes by way of trial and error, so show yourself some patience and grace when going through this process and remember I am here to answer any questions you might have!
In next week’s post, I will be showing you different ways to integrate these items into your wardrobe, so even if you have slightly different items that I do, you can absolutely still create similar looks using what you have!
As always, thanks for reading and let me know if you have any questions!

Christine
