Before I dive into today’s content, I want to apologize for missing last week’s newsletter! (Face palm.) It was a beyond busy week and with Nate out of town and me leaving town last Thursday, some of my regular programming fell to the wayside. But, I am back and I am very excited to share a bit about our upcoming TWO WEEK ROAD TRIP that we are embarking on with our two dogs, this coming Friday…
The idea started during 2020, when a very stir crazy Nate looked at me and said, “when we are allowed to safely travel again, I want to go on a road trip with Murphy to Mount Rushmore.” I forgot about it for a while until he brought it up again at some point in 2021 and mentioned that he would also like to visit Fargo, which is where his Dad is from. (Shortly after this conversation, I watched the movie for the first time - what a wild film.) By this point, we had adopted Ruby, the world was beginning to open back up again and I decided to make it my mission to get this road trip planned.
At first we were going to go all the way across country to visit this amazing dog resort called Happy Tails in Virginia where the dogs get to all go diving into this massive swimming pool and live their best life. But after looking at what a cross country road trip would actually entail, we realized it felt like a bit much for us right now so we settled on just making our way to Fargo and Mount Rushmore. The plan is to make the whole trip dog-focused, which has been so fun to plan. I have been using Bring Fido to research what is pup friendly in the areas where we will be stopping and it’s been super helpful.
I have also been using Road Trippers to plan our trip and have booked all our stays through Airbnb. We will be using Sniffspot as well, which is basically like Airbnb for yards, which is great for Murphy since he sometimes can be a bit reactive at dog parks, so we are looking forward to experiencing different unique outdoor spaces in each place we stop!
As far as packing goes…I haven’t started yet! The issue is, the side of me that is the lover of fashion and clothing and options wants to pack a ton of cute outfits for each city that we stop in, yet the more minimal and practical side of me doesn’t want to be stuck lugging a huge suitcase in and out of the car every night since we are basically only really staying in each place for one, two days max. So for practice and inspiration, I decided to create a couple of outfit examples of ways I can remix a few key pieces but still feel like I have a few different looks / options available. So today’s newsletter is for me just as much as it is for you haha.
Note on the title: I went with “Car to Bar” because, well, it was just too good to pass up because I love things that rhyme, but also to show you how to transform a comfy car look into something that you can wear into a restaurant (Car to Restaurant didn’t have the same ring, haha) or bar just by swapping out a few simple pieces! Hope you enjoy and leave a comment below if you have any questions!
